The Chevelle was created in 1964 as a midsize auto from Chevrolet. It was produced through the 1960's and 1970's. Chevelle classic automobiles include 2 door convertibles, 4 door sedans, station wagons, and sedan pick up trucks.

The Chevelle Malibu SS was Chevrolet's entry into the hot midsize muscle car market and was one of the most popular cars from this era. The Chevelle SS had its own line of engines and performance equipment from 5.4L V8 - 7.4L V8. Muscle car - driving roadsters loved the power and styling of the Chevelle SS.

The 1965 Chevelle SS was a limited edition 396 known as the Z-16 package. Only 201 of these 355bhp cars were made. 200 hardtops and 1 convertible. It took another year before the 396 became available to the general public.

1968 saw a major redesign of the Chevelle SS. The hood was stretched out and the deck was shortened. The rear window was converted into a fastback look. Muscle car enthusiasts loved the hot new look.

In 1969 the SS 396 became an option package on all Chevelles. It became possible to order the SS 396 package on everything from the Malibu sport coupe (the most popular Chevelle) to Chevelle 300 series, and even the El Camino pickup.

In 1970, in a response to GM's lift on the ban of engines larger than 400 cid in midsize cars, Chevelle put a new, faster, more powerful 454 cubic engine into the Chevelle SS.

1973 was the last year of the Chevelle SS, and was available on the Station Wagon.

Today, all Chevelle cars are food for classic automotive enthusiasts. Whether to collect and show off, or fix up and sell, the Chevelle makes an excellent addition for car collectors. Search our database of Chevelles for sale in our Classic car trader listings for Chevelle.
